Next time you’re looking for a night out, consider comedy. In Florida, many of the comedy clubs are well known for attracting national acts. In Florida you’ll find a wide range of comedy venues, whether you prefer cozy venues or outrageous improv shows.
The Bonkerz in Daytona Beach
You can enjoy traditional stand-up at Bonkerz Comedy Club. In the past three decades, this Orlando-based outfit has hosted Rita Rudner, Jerry Seinfeld, and Paula Poundstone. Since 1968, they have been voted the “Best Comedy Club” in several cities, including Orlando and Las Vegas. It is easy to see why this is Florida’s best comedy club.
As I said I traveled to Daytona Beach to enjoy the Penthouse Lounge at LaPlaya Resort. It offers panoramic views of the beach and strip from both table and bar seating in the spacious room. The setting should be intimate. You can always find great shows on Showtime, Comedy Central, Letterman, and Leno.
Off the Hook Comedy Club in Naples
Also in Marco Island, Off The Hook Comedy Club at Captain Brien’s Seafood and Raw Bar is a great place to enjoy traditional stand-up. Over the weekend, top Michigan comedians toured Florida clubs at the club, which is on the Improv comedy circuit. Pauly Shore, Andrea Dice Clay, Gallagher, Jackie Mason and Jimmie J.J. Walker was among the performers in the past. You can eat at the restaurant before the show and then yuk it up with your friends before the show begins.
St. Pete Beach, coconuts
You should stop by Coconuts Comedy Club for a show if you’re in St. Pete Beach. Despite the smaller space (read: size) in this venue, it is known for hosting high-end acts. Nick Gaza, the oldest comedian in the Chicago Comedy Club, has appeared on “Drew Carey,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” and “Becker.” This means his act combines true stories and funny wordplay (read: poking fun at both the audience and himself).
A comedy theater in Sarasota, McCurdy’s
Mccurdy’s Comedy Theater & Humor Institute has been in business for more than 22 years and features stand-up and improv performances. A large, specially-designed Vegas Comedy Club in Florida offers seats no more than 40 feet from the stage anywhere in its 4,000-square-foot room. Comedy Festival performers include Jeff Foxworthy, Chris Rock, Elayne Boosler, Soupy Sales, Judy Tenuta, Pat Paulsen, Larry “The Cable Guy,” Kevin Pollack, Ron White, David Brenner, and Bobcat Goldthwait. . . As you can see, the picture is pretty clear. A surprising number of big names attend this venue, despite its unassuming location.
Its monthly humor lectures are complemented by live comedy performances. Studies show that providing employees with new information through humor increases retention. In addition to improvisation, the Bermuda Mavericks perform sketches to reduce stress and increase productivity in the workplace. That’s a wonderful concept.
Comedy Lab, Orlando, Sak
SAK Comedy Lab offers improv performances downtown in Orlando. Instead, you’ll find a friendly show with no stand-up comedy that will be suitable for everyone. (Any bad language will be penalized.) It’s like “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”.
Also available through SAK is an excellent improv program. The alumni of the school, which has been around for 30 years, are testaments to its success.
Jacksonville’s Comedy Zone
Throughout the north, Chong has appeared at Comedy Zone with Ralphie May. Come to the Jacksonville Comedy Zone Workshop to learn how to become a comedian. Whether you need to tell jokes that your friends won’t laugh at or just want to be able to tell jokes better, this eight-week course can help you.

Hollywood’s SoFlo Comedy Showcase
Semi-finalists of Florida’s Funniest and Ultimate Miami Comedian compete in this downtown Hollywood club. A number of artists have performed at the festival, including Brian Coronado, Minda Minda, Timothy Kirby, Deborah Anne, Perry Sak, and Angela Bellonio Nacca.
