Pankaj Kapur first appeared on silver screen in his movie Gandhi in which he played the role of Mahatma Gandhi’s secretary Pyarelal Nayyar. He was awarded with his first National Award in 1989 for his work in film Raakh. While working in films he shifted himself from films to Television acting because he thought he was only getting side roles of villains which he wanted to avoid. He also won National Film Award and Filmfare Award for his best performance in film Maqbool.
